Sabotaged Bacon Gone... Right
Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 02:52AM A week or so ago my friend and I decided to sabotage a meal our buddy was cooking for himself. He was cooking some bacon and left it unattended long enough for us to have our way with it. It started by adding Lizzano Salsa sauce (which on a side note is AMAZING on eggs), then that snowballed into things like milk, ketchup, sugar, and more. When it was done it looked pretty bad but I had to try some. I was shocked, and later was my friend, because is actually tasted good. The recipe is found below.
- Bacon (we used thick-cut)
- Sugar
- Lizzano Salsa (optional)
- Ketchup
- Milk
- Sugar
- Steak seasoning (or pepper)
- Honey
- Oil
- Salt
Directions:
Add the liquids first, then spices. Cook until mixture starts to cake on bacon then very removed from heat as it barely starts to turn black.
This is the hardest part! The mixture can very easily "flash over" and turn into a burned mess if not carefully attended. As the mixture starts to thicken watch it very carefully. At the first signs of it turning black remove from heat.
We were amazed as you probably are at how good this actually tastes. It gives the bacon a richer, more full-bodied flavor, which is hard to do with something that is already so tasty. I believe that what happened is that all the sugar in everything we added, especially the honey, ketchup, and sugar, caramelized the bacon. I also think that the milk allowed the sugar to heat up without burning so that this could happen. Whatever it ended up being, it turned out great and I highly recommend it!
Even if you don't agree that it does taste good it's something fun to try. Combining such polar ingredients really brings the kid out of you, and the true reason why so many are passionate about cooking. It's FUN.

Wow, I have never heard of this before! You seem to be a good cook! I saw those pictures you posted on twitter where you made pasta from scratch! That is awesome!
Thank you! The pasta was a much more traditional recipe, this by all means was experimental but turned out tasting pretty good!
that is a long process for four strips of bacon! whoosh.
